To say that I’m not looking forward to going into an empty office today would be an understatement. But as they say in the biz, the show must go on. This adage has proven especially difficult for me to follow, because try as I might to hold it together, my eyes inevitably break out in tears. I’m hoping today will be different.
The most dramatic and ever so slightly comical incident of the last few days happened on Friday, when I stood in the work pantry sobbing over a box of leftover donuts. Can you imagine? The waterworks turned on when it suddenly dawned on me that I would no longer have as many birthdays to bake cupcakes for or taste-testers to try all of the food I make for this blog. As inconsequential as that may sound, I’d like to think my little outburst was a testament to how close I was with all of my coworkers.
Looking back on my blog, I owe most of my recipes to our many work celebrations over the years. Banana Cream Pie for one of our annual summer potlucks, Apple Pie Cupcakes for an office bridal shower, and Caramel Apple Hand Pies for a recent baby shower, just to name a few. Other favorites include my Churros con Chocolate Cupcakes, Fried Pickle Chips, Chocolate Banana Cupcakes with Nutella Frosting, Caramel Mocha Cupcakes for Kate’s birthday, and Risotto Balls.
Back in June, when this blog turned one, I wanted to write some sort of anniversary post sharing my favorite recipes, but never got around to it. Today’s post serves a dual purpose of looking back on this blog’s first year and celebrating my coworkers. After all, the two are inextricably intertwined.
And let me add one last thing on the subject. They were the best coworkers a girl could ask for. I’m just happy I got to repay the favor by sharing a few treats, because it was the very least I could do. Please join me in sending good vibes their way. Thanks for the love.
