Happy Year of the Sheep/Goat/Ram! Fun fact: It’s the same Chinese character “羊” for all three words, so you can use them interchangeably. Year of the Ram is what you’ll hear most often in English, because it sounds a lot cooler than Year of the Goat, but if we’re going to be completely honest with ourselves, the latter holds truer to the Chinese Zodiac. Sorry to disappoint any of you would-be rams out there. With that said, I hope everyone has Chinese food in their plans today. Brian and I certainly do, but other than that, we’re taking it really easy (he’s recovering from surgery, me from my cold), and the same spirit will likely extend into the weekend. Translation: this will be the last you hear from me this week. Now, if I were a 10 on the Chinese scale, I’d take the whole month off, because in China, that’s the standard vacation time for the occasion. Lucky for you, I’m more like a 7 (or a 3 according to Brian), so I hope to be back at it and in full health on Monday.
Until then, I’m wishing you a happy and healthy new year!

It goes without saying that 2014 was one of the best years I’ve ever had. I went to Barcelona, finally got my MBA, traveled back to Europe, befriended lovely people, witnessed two sets of dear friends get married, ventured to Vancouver and Seattle, met and fell in love with Brian’s family at two epic bat mitzvahs, grew this little blog of mine and got engaged to a truly great guy that I can’t wait to call my husband. It’s gonna be a tough one to beat, but I have a feeling 2015 will manage to do so handily, particularly around August.
Thanks so much for following along. It means the world to me. Wishing you and yours all the best in 2015. Happy New Year!
So I totally had every intention of sharing what I thought would be this really awesome strawberry cream cheese puff pastry dessert, but things didn’t quite pan out as I’d hoped. It happens I suppose, and better luck next time. Until then, here’s hoping I have better luck with the rest of this week’s endeavors. Wishing you the same!
Happy 4th, my friends! I just wanted to drop in and say a quick hello before we head off to Lake Anna to celebrate America’s 238th birthday (she doesn’t look a day over 200) with Brian’s family. Here’s a glimpse of today’s desserts (blueberry pie recipe here, cherry pie recipe here) before they made their way into the oven. I can’t wait to dig in.
Wishing you a happy 4th of July holiday filled with food and fireworks. Have a great one!
Not quite chillin’ over here in Chicago, but I am giving this blog a breather today to let myself catch up on some much needed rest following an eventful and exhausting two-days covering the protests outside the McDonald’s shareholders meeting. It was my first-ever travel work trip as “on-air talent” and I was very happy for the experience, but am even happier now that it’s behind me.
Today, I’m off to see and capture some of Chicago’s best sites for a different story that I’m working on. Wish me luck. The rest of the weekend, I plan to party like a teenager (the best kind of partying there is) at Brian’s cousin’s bat mitzvah. I can’t wait to be reunited with his family and can’t wait to hit the dance floor. I hope you have similarly fun plans. Have a great weekend!
In an uncharacteristic move, I’ve decided to give myself the day off from blogging on this Friday, or Fryday as they’re known around these parts.
You see, I had hoped to share a Barcelona food diary of sorts, but I let school, work and mild jet lag get the better of me, and I ran out of time. Sure, I could have powered through late into the night (as I often do) to crank something out in time, but in the end, decided the quality of such a post would be much better served with a good night’s sleep. And sleep is what I did. No regrets here. So please check back on Monday for that Barcelona food guide of mine. I hope to have my act together by then.
In the meantime, I wish you have a fabulous, fun-filled weekend. I’ll be spending mine with my parents and brother in New York city. You can bet there will be lots of Chinese food. Have a great one!
