I’m on an ice-cream kick that I just can’t seem to shake (no pun intended, you’ll see what I mean). First, it was this refreshing York Peppermint Shake, and more recently, this Matcha Milkshake (see?). Both were delicious, but with four scoops of ice cream per serving, they aren’t exactly diet friendly. The tasty things rarely are. Today, I’m staying true to my love for ice cream, but throttling down to one or two scoops per glass in these Valentine-inspired Cherry Vanilla Floats. I don’t normally drink carbonated anything (soda, beer, you name it), so this is quite a big deal.
To make these very simple Cherry Vanilla Floats, you’ll need: Cherry 7-Up or your choice of cherry-flavored soda, vanilla ice cream, maraschino cherries, red or pink sprinkles.
Cherry 7-Up was what I was going for, but my very small neighborhood Safeway doesn’t stock any. I improvised and picked up a pack of Hansen’s Diet Cherry Vanilla Soda instead. To give the otherwise clear soda a pink color, I dropped in a teaspoon of maraschino cherry juice in each glass. Feel free to add more. If you can swing it, Cherry 7-Up is still the way to go.
To make these babies, you need but follow traditional float-making protocol. Drop one to two scoops vanilla ice cream in a glass and fill with soda. Drop in maraschino cherries and sprinkle with sprinkles.
Just like that you’ve got yourself a very simple yet festive fizzy and pink beverage perfect for Valentine’s Day. Cheers to that!
P.S. No Recipe Reciprocity post later today. It’s just been one of those weeks where I’ve struggled to stay afloat (look! another pun!), but if you’re in need of some recipe inspiration, give the ol’ archives a browse. See you back here tomorrow!
