better late than never – engagement pictures!

Yang and Brian Engagement Pictures{Chagrin Falls – photography by the talented Kayla of Full Bloom Photography}

Well, well, well. Look who decided to show up on her own blog again after going AWOL for six weeks. The nerve.

Gulp. Six weeks. I can’t believe it’s been that long since I last posted, but I really needed the time away. Because as great of a multitasker as I’d like to think I am, between moving to a new city, adjusting to a new job, planning for a wedding (almost two months away, ah!), getting in shape for said wedding (two months! what was I doing earlier?!), house hunting, and traveling nearly every weekend, my plate’s been beyond full. Those first two weeks after I moved, when I tried to stay on top of blogging, this little corner of the internet that I’ve spent so long making my own started to feel more like a burden than a blessing. That was when I knew I needed a break, cold-turkey style.

Truth be told, I don’t feel any more organized or together than I did at the start of my hiatus. In fact, our apartment is in an even bigger mess than it ever was before (thank you, wedding invitations that still need stuffing). But I’ve stayed away long enough and found myself missing sharing the little details and recipes that get me going. That’s when I knew it was time to come back, so here I am again. Let’s give this another shot.

To mark my return, I’m excited to share a look at the better-late-than-never engagement session Brian and I had with our wedding photographer Kayla when we were in Cleveland last weekend. It felt a little silly taking these pictures so late in the game, but when we tried taking them last fall, I discovered that “fall” in Cleveland is the dead of winter anywhere else, so last weekend it was. Kayla’s beautiful handiwork after the jump.

Downtown Cleveland offers quite a few scenic photo spots (all of which we plan to hit up on our wedding day), but for these pictures, Brian thought it would be nice if we made the very quaint Chagrin Falls Township (southeast of Cleveland) our backdrop. Kayla, a West-sider had never shot there herself, so we made an adventure of it and gathered in front of the popcorn store, bought some popcorn and let the good times roll.

With a scenic river, namesake waterfall, great restaurants and a roller rink, Chagrin Falls was a childhood haunt of Brian’s, most notably for that last feature. It’s probably been 15 years since Brian last had any pictures taken there, so I’m very happy that he’ll have these to remember his favorite place by.

On my very first trip to Cleveland, Brian took me to Chagrin Falls to feed the ducks with some of their delicious but lesser known popcorn (the Chagrin Mix of kettlecorn and natural cheddar popcorn is the best). It’s still up there as one of my favorite memories. Back then, the thought of marriage, especially to each other, was far from our minds. This last time around, the act was made all the more special because we know we’ll have many more such trips ahead of us.

One of these days, I’d like to learn how to smile without my big round cheeks squeezing my eyes away. Someone teach me please.

Feeding the ducks very quickly became feeding ourselves, and here I am trying to catch popcorn in my mouth. I never win at this game.

Here we are practicing our “serious faces” for the more artsy pictures we’ll want to take for the wedding. Brian’s got his down, but I look weirdly angry. I guess I’m just much more of a happy-faced person.

Happy to the point of looking stupid as pictured above. You know the cheesy engagement-picture staple where couples throw eaves around? We did it one better and threw popcorn for ours.

The geese and ducks didn’t seem to mind.

Yang & Brian Engagement Photos - Swing
Swings because we’re fun.

This backdrop was Brian’s idea and even Kayla thought it was cheesy. I have to agree with her, but it’s also one of my favorites. We look happy, young and like we don’t take ourselves too seriously. I’m sure I’ll cherish it forever.

Yang & Brian Engagement Photos - Hug
This one’s Brian’s favorite. Pardon the part in my hair. I have no idea what’s going on there.

This picture was the very last one we took and I love it.

And these pictures are by far the absolute best of the bunch. Food and Brian, my two favorite things.

I hope you enjoyed these, because we certainly enjoyed posing for them. We can’t wait to do it all over again on August 8th! It feels great to be blogging again!
