I’m switching things up a bit for this latest Thirsty Thursday post. Instead of sharing the usual decadent drink recipe (like the Orange Creamsicle Milkshake from a couple weeks back, or this Honey-Banana Milkshake from way way back), I thought I’d take a break and go the complete opposite direction by sharing why hot water and lemon are now part of my morning routine. The short version of the story: it’s good for you. The longer version goes something like this:
Keeping it Regular
Sorry, I went there, but this way we get the unpleasantness out of the way early. Not only is hot water great for the aforementioned reason, it helps with digestion, detoxing the body, and has been shown to break down fats. Amen to that.
Speeds up Metabolism
On that same note, a glass of hot water and lemon in the morning helps jump start your metabolism for the rest of the day. I can use all the help I can get in that department.
Hydration is key to good, clear skin, but more than that hot water and lemon help bring down any redness or inflammation.
Likely the most obvious of the citrus water’s benefits, but it’s not to be overlooked. Vitamin C does good things for your immune system, so do what you can to get your fill.
Easy as Can Be
This last reason is perhaps the most crucial. Good habits can be hard to pick up, so when an easy one comes along, I feel like I have no choice but to adopt it. Hot water and lemon is about as easy as it gets. Get the kettle going as soon as you wake up, get your hot water from the break room at work, and use juice from a real lemon slice or a bottle. Mix it all up, let it cool a bit before gulping it down, and you’re done.
As you can see, there are quite a few reasons why I now swear by this stuff every morning. After reading this, I hope you’ll consider doing the same, swapping your first-thing-in-the-morning cup of coffee for some best-thing hot water and lemon. Cheers, friends!
