TGIF! What a week! I say that with much relief and not in a oh-my-gosh-it-was-awesome kind of way. Anyway, before I run off to regain my sanity (I’m in Atlanta for the weekend!), I wanted to share a quick glimpse into our wedding website that I made using Wix.com.
For blogging, I’m a die-hard WordPress devotee, but for something like a wedding website where daily publishing and updates aren’t needed, Wix is the way to go. If you’re a web newbie, Wix offers so many great templates (I went with this one) and it’s all drag and drop which makes the whole thing really easy and foolproof. No html knowledge needed. You do have to pay a monthly fee if you want to set up your own domain and remove their ads, but it was a small price to pay considering all the perks and ease of use.
Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I’m very proud of how everything turned out. As I’m sure you know, wedding websites can be cheesy and uninspired. Too often they’ll say “More info coming soon!” and the info never comes, or include bios on the wedding party and other superfluous information that no one ever reads. Yes, I’m a website snob. So we tried a more pared down, easy-on-the-eyes approach.
Before publishing, it was really important to Brian and me that we include all of the travel and sightseeing info up front. Believe it or not, the most popular response I get from people when I tell them we’re getting married in Cleveland is, “Ugh! Why?!” First of all, that’s rude, and would be like criticizing someone’s choice of baby name after the naming. But I get it. Cleveland doesn’t have a great rap. With that in mind, we did our best to convey what the great (yes, great) city has to offer, and put a lot of care into each and every page and sentence. At multiple points, we couldn’t help but laugh at ourselves when we were sweating the small details like attraction descriptions and the order of our restaurant recommendations. Who does that? Only us, and that’s why we’re a great match.
Anyway, I hope our guests appreciate it, and even if they don’t, because trust me, I’m well aware my standards are on the irrational end and wedding websites are rather trivial, I want to take great pride in my wedding and that includes the website.
Wishing you a great weekend!
