Berlin Food Guide - fortune goodiesNow that we’ve moved on to Dresden, the Berlin part of my fellowship has come to an end, but the city’s food is still very much on my mind. There for five full days, I only had a handful of opportunities to venture out for food of my own. Most of our lunches and dinners were planned for us, but when I could get away, I did, and discovered some great places worth sharing. Let’s begin.

Berlin - Inside the Artist Studio{Kani Alavi‘s Kreuzberg studio}

You know me, and know that I’m not one to spend a full post talking about any one thing unless it has to do with food, but today I thought I’d take a break from the culinary arts and share something in the realm of the visual.

I’m here in Berlin for a two-week fellowship, where, along with other American broadcast reporters and producers, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with leaders in local government and journalism. Everyone’s been great, knowledgeable and impressively fluent in English, but I have to say that for me, the highlight was meeting Iranian-German artist Kani Alavi of East Side Gallery fame. The man doesn’t speak any English, but his work is proof that a picture is worth a thousand words. No translation necessary.

Pic Me Up - 6.10
Now on Day 3 of my stay in Berlin and I can finally say I’m beginning to take to the city. It’s no Paris, London or Barcelona, but I’m liking a lot of what I’m seeing (shared above) and just needed a little time to warm up to the place. By the way, warming up to the place? Totally ironic given how freaking hot it’s been here. Turns out air conditioning and ice cubes are very foreign concepts. God bless, America.
