Lauriol Plaza | DC's Best Mexican Food

Hello, hello. I hope your week is off to a great start, I know mine is because I’m still digesting last night’s great dinner at Lauriol Plaza, one of my very favorite DC restaurants, the subject of today’s post, and the latest addition to my District of Calories restaurant recommendations.

As Brian gets ready to move to Atlanta (yep, Atlanta will eventually be our new home, but Brian is getting a head start), we’re making a point of dining at our favorite DC restaurants with our favorite DC people and Lauriol was at the very top of the list.

DC Food Guide
DC is a great place for adventurous foodies, and an even greater place for habitual repeat diners. I proudly fall in the second group.

Believe me, I’m all for trying new things, but there’s also something incredibly comforting about sharing a meal that you know and love, and I’ve found several in my 4+ years here. When friends and coworkers ask about our weekend plans, they almost always roll their eyes and make fun of us for constantly going to “our place(s),” but I feel no shame, just pride.

I hope this little DC food guide of mine leads you to adopt some of my personal favorites for your own. Better yet, take me with you.

with the Obamas 2013
{Left to right: First Lady Michelle Obama, me, my boss Ellen, and Barack Obama the 44th President of the United States}

Oh man, did I get a kick out of writing that picture caption. Can you believe it? That’s me with the Obamas!

Last Thursday, I had the privilege of accompanying my boss Ellen to the White House Press Holiday Reception. Up there with William and Kate’s wedding, it’s the kind of event that I would never expect to attend considering how selective they are with the invitations. And somehow the Washington gods smiled down on me when a couple weeks back, Ellen asked if I would go as her date. !!!. I haven’t had a solid night’s sleep ever since.

December 12th, 2013 is a day I’ll never forget. I was in a daze most of the night, but did manage to snap a few pictures on the trusted iPhone to share with you today. Gather around and take a look.
